COMPETITION TEAM — MARKHAM

About the Team

What Is the
Competition Team?

The Zenith competition team is a dedicated group of boxing and Muay Thai athletes who train with the explicit goal of competing in sanctioned events. This is a team within a team, built on the same values that run through every Zenith program, but held to a higher standard of commitment, discipline and conduct.

Membership is not automatic. It is offered by coaches to students who have demonstrated the technical skill, mental readiness and character to represent Zenith in competition. Once on the team, you train harder, prepare smarter and show up for each other.

01
Overprepared
Over Rushed

We believe in taking the time to do it right. No one fights before they are ready, technically, physically or mentally. Preparation is non-negotiable.

02
Represent
the Gym Well

Competition team members carry the Zenith name into every event. How you train, how you carry yourself and how you treat opponents all reflect on this gym.

03
Safety Is
Non-Negotiable

We take the physical risks of combat sport seriously. Every decision we make, from training load to fight selection, is made with your long-term health in mind.

04
Accountability
to the Team

The competition team is a collective. Your attendance, your effort and your attitude affect everyone around you. We expect you to show up prepared and ready to work.

05
Discipline
in All Things

Rules exist for a reason. Conduct standards are maintained inside and outside the gym. Behaviour that reflects poorly on Zenith or the sport will not be tolerated.

06
Coach-Led
Always

Coaches make all decisions about fight readiness, event selection and training intensity. Athletes on this team trust that process, because it is built entirely around their best interests.

!

The Competition Team Is a Privilege, Not a Right

We take the dangers of this sport seriously. As coaches and mentors, we will never pressure a student to compete, and we will never green-flag someone to fight who we do not believe is ready. Membership on the competition team is earned through consistent training, technical development and demonstrated readiness. Rules are expected to be followed strictly. If we do not feel you are ready to train at a competitive level, we will not offer you this membership.

Community

We Train With
the Community.

Zenith is proud to cross-train with other gyms in the martial arts community. That means sometimes hosting students from other teams for sparring sessions at our gym and sometimes loading up and making the trip to theirs.

We believe the martial arts community is stronger when gyms train together. Exposure to different styles, coaches and environments makes better athletes. Our doors are open to the right people, and we are always grateful when others open theirs.

Training Without Competing

You Don't Have to
Fight to Train
Like a Fighter.

Not everyone on the competition team has to step into the ring. If you want to train at the competitive level, the intensity, the structure, the exclusive sessions, but do not wish to compete, that path is available to you.

Access is still at the sole discretion of our coaches. The standard for joining remains the same. The only difference is the goal.

How It Works

If you are interested in the competition team membership as a non-competing member, speak directly with your coach. They will assess your current level and let you know whether it is the right fit for where you are in your training. This is not a shortcut into the team. It is an alternate track within the same high standard.

Eligibility

What We're
Looking For.

There is no set formula. Readiness is assessed holistically by our coaches. But these are the qualities that matter, and the behaviours that will disqualify you from consideration.

What earns your spot
+

Consistent attendance across regular programming

+

Technical development that demonstrates coachability and growth

+

Respect for coaches, training partners and gym culture

+

Mental readiness and emotional maturity under pressure

+

A genuine drive to compete and represent Zenith well

+

Willingness to follow the coaching team's process without shortcuts

What disqualifies you
×

Inconsistent attendance or unreliability within regular classes

×

Disrespectful behaviour toward coaches, staff or training partners

×

Resistance to coaching feedback or an unwillingness to be corrected

×

Conduct inside or outside the gym that reflects poorly on Zenith

×

Attempting to circumvent the invitation process or pressure coaches into a decision

×

Technical or physical unreadiness regardless of attitude or desire

Ready to Take It Further?

The Path
Starts in
the Gym.

If you think you're ready, or want to know what readiness looks like for you, start by talking to your coach after class. The invitation process begins with a conversation, not an application. Alternatively, fill out this form and one of our coaches will give you a call.
